A City of London Livery Master

A City of London Livery Master

We are delighted to announce that our Chief Executive, Dr Michael Smith, a long-time Freeman & Liveryman of the City of London, has been elected as the Master of the Worshipful Company of Fan Makers.  The Fan Makers’ Company, which is 350 years old this year, is one of the (currently) 110 Livery Companies in the City. With their origins in the trade guilds of London which date back to the 12th century, Livery Companies today have three principal aims: the promotion & development of their trades & professions; the support of charitable causes within their communities & nationally; and the education & training of people around the world.

Developing though the centuries alongside the Lord Mayor & Corporation of London they support organisations, including Charities, Academia and the Military, throughout the UK.  Between the Livery Companies and the Corporation, the City contributes in cash & kind, £400 million per year.  Whilst the Fan Makers have their roots in 17th & 18th century ladies’ fans, today they support the modern fan in such industries as ventilation and, with ETL in mind, aerospace!
